The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Carl Bell can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Mary Master

Dr. Bell was one of the most influential people in my life. His plant taxonomy classes were a pure joy. His company was to be cherished. I was working at the college library so I was able to audit classes. I had to get his permission and he refused. He said they never came to class. I promised him that I would be at every class and was, and took all three. As the next course came around, I had to ask his permisssion again. One time he said one of the nicest things anyone has ever said about me. "There she is. Just like the crocus. Pops up every Spring." I moved to Costa Rica 11 years ago & the natural beauty here is one of the reason. When I was in the states last year, I made it a point to find him, visit with him and take him to lunch. He picked the spot. The old lunch counter in Charles Town and drove himself over there. I am so glad I made the effort to tell him how important he was to me and how grateful I was that I had a chance to know him and Lyla. From planting trees together, our many walks and his delightful personality, he was and will remain a treasure in my life. I will post a picture of us at the lunch counter that our waitress insisted on taking. Such a lovely memory.
