In addition to other Social Security benefits, a one-time death benefit not to exceed $255.00 may be available to an eligible surviving spouse or an eligible child or children. Brown Funeral Home will complete a "Funeral Directors Statement of Death" which can help in applying for benefits. It usually requires about two months for a survivor to start receiving Social Security benefits. Contact the Social Security Administration at (800)772-1213 for eligibility details.
