Story shared: The first time I met Rocky

I first met Rocky in the 1970s. There had been a significant snow fall in Martinsburg and he and his children had driven Vicki to work at what was then known as City Hospital. I had been on call the past 24 hours and was ready to leave but was hesitant about driving on the snow covered roads. He saw me in the lobby and offered to take me home. In the years after that our paths crossed many times when our children were active in rec league and high school sports and then again when he was active in the Apollo Civic Theatre.

Ron and I met in person or talked on the phone every week for more than 15 years. When I moved from Berkeley County to North Central WV, Ron was one of those that I felt would always be there to lift up his community. I remember Ron and his dad Harry from their store location which I recall being on W. Martin Street. I purchased my first typewriter there. As I go through this remembrance process over the next several days, I will surely lift up to the Lord, in prayer, Vicki and Ron's family, that the peace and love of Jesus would embrace them.

My condolences to the Rockwell family and especially to Vicki. I have fond memories of growing up with Rocky. I always looked forward to seeing him at our high school reunions. Rocky never changed over the years and I am especially thankful and blessed to have known him as a friend. Rocky will be missed RIP, Rocky.

Here is a scripture I personally like, found in Job 14:14,15- “If a man dies, can he live again? I will wait all the days of my compulsory service Until my relief comes. You will call, and I will answer you. You will long for the work of your hands.” Jehovah promises to resurrect, or bring back to life our loved ones. We can be sure, just as Job was sure of it.
