Obituary for Brenda Kaye Sperow (Allen)

Brenda Kaye Sperow, 64, of Falling Waters passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Facility.

Born March 5, 1957 in Martinsburg, WV she was the daughter of the late Franklin R. “Bill” Allen and Betty Louise Fishel Allen.

Brenda had a love of motorcycles and spent many vacations with her husband, Don traveling the country on their Harley Davidson in search of Americana and her favorite Lighthouses.

Brenda’s faith in God was foundational in her life and for more than twenty years she shared generously of her time and talents in support of Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church. She was instrumental in guiding her church’s music program playing piano and developing programs for weekly services, weddings, and special events. Brenda was also active in the church community outreach program spending many hours in the community inviting people to the church.

Brenda spent her career supporting people with physical and intellectual disabilities. She received her bachelor’s degree in 1986 and a master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in Special Education in 2003. She found her calling in the late 1970’s working with the Human Development Council in Washington County. She was actively involved in opening the first residential homes for individuals with ID. Throughout the 1980’s and into 2008 Brenda was busy building a superior residential program at the ARC of Washington County. Brenda supported Star Community for a short period before moving to The Potomac Center in 2009 where she reopened a day service initiating a program that was vocationally focused. In 2014 and until her retirement in 2021 Brenda worked with the Developmental Disability Administration Western Regional Office where she was considered a regional as well as state expert on employment and meaningful day services for individuals with Intellectual Disabilities.

She is survived by her husband, Don Sperow; step-son, Christopher Sperow; sisters, Betyna Graham (Jerry), Beth Allen; niece, Morgan Hunter (Jess); nephew Jacob Graham (Logan); great-niece Lillian Graham; mother-in-law, Mary Frances Sperow; and sister-in-law Anne Bohrer.

Funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at 6:00PM with Pastor Corey Bane officiating at Shenandoah Bible Church, 2251 Williamsport Pike, Martinsburg, WV 25404.

Family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 6:00PM prior to the service at the church.
