Obituary for Barbara Marie Ware (Barrow)

Barbara Marie Ware, 68 years old, formerly of Martinsburg, West Virginia, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021 at the Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Barbara was born on May 21, 1953 in Martinsburg to the late Kenneth and Betty Bennett Barrow. She was the class of 1971 at Musselman High School and went on to earn both a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education & Early Childhood Education at Shepherd University in 1975 and Master’s degree in Elementary Education & Administration at West Virginia University in 2003. She continued her education further, earning more than sixty hours beyond her Master’s. Barbara was a teacher, assistant principal, and professor across several schools, to include Shepherd University, Bunker Hill Elem., Berkeley Heights Elem., Valley View Elem., Burke Street Elem., Tuscarora Elem., and Inwood Primary. She retired in 2017 after a career of more than forty years as an educator. She is well remembered for her life-long devotion to education and as a loving, passionate teacher to the many students she had come to know throughout her life. Although she resided in Berkeley County for the majority of her life, Barbara was also well traveled. Her favorite places around the world include Mexico, Ireland, Germany, the Cayman Islands, and any place where she could relax on the beach with a good book.

Barbara is survived by her life-long companion, Margaret Myers, and their two miniature schnauzers, Remi and Rhea; brothers, David Barrow and wife, Anne of Lynchburg, VA, Mark Barrow and wife, Cathy of Bowman, SC; four nieces, Hannah Boyce, Sarah Barrow, Rebekah Barrow, Holly Swanger; nephew, Justin Barrow; and many more extended family and friends who loved her and will miss her dearly.

Graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Paynes Chapel Cemetery in Ridgeway, WV with Pastor Karen Farley officiating. The family requests that everyone attending wear face masks and practice social distancing.
